We consulted with a pest control company in Melbourne, Florida and asked them to give us some quick tips on how to avoid having pests in your home. These are the tips they sent us.
1. Sweep and Clean Often
Having any food laying around (even just crumb) can act as a beacon that attracts pests of all varieties. This includes roaches, ants, rodents, and many more.
2. Do Those Dishes
Smelly unwashed dishes act as a buffet to roaches. They actually can travel right through the pipes right there in your sink to get to them. They can sense vibration on the ground and tell when you are not in the area. They also like when you turn off the light and go to bed without doing dishes. Buffet time!
3. Screen Doors and Windows
Old damaged screen doors and windows are one of the easiest ways for roaches, ants, gnats and flies to get inside. The tiniest hole can become all the space they need to worm their way in.
4. Pets
You love your dog or cat. You let them run around outside and have a little fun. But there are certain parasites which hang out at the end of blades of grass and bushes just waiting for your pet to brush against them. Once they latch on, they are brought into the home where things get bad. Ticks, fleas and mites all grab a ride on Rover and hope to set up shop indoors and stay warm. Your pet is the host animal until they decide to branch out. Then you are the host animal!
